Plan Sussex – Projects

This project in the Sussex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty was completed in 1999, replacing an pre-war clinker built boathouse with a Sussex Barn ‘converted' to a house, significantly improving value.

Services included, design, planning application, successful appeal, building regulations and site supervision.

Planning permission has recently been given for 6 houses in the yard of this important Grade II listed building in a sensitive location in an attractive village in 1066 Country. No building work has yet been carried out.

Services included the planning application, detailed local authority negotiations, discussion with local objectors and English Heritage. Detailed plans are being prepared for building works.
This is one case when the original building will be totally unrecognisable after the permitted works have been carried out. The site - about ½ an acre on the North Weald in Kent with unrivalled views of the North Downs. The property - a 1930s timber bungalow with later brick skin – not very appealing. The plan - to build oast houses to ‘clothe’ the original design with buildings traditional to the area and to increase value
Services provided include design, planning application, detailed discussion and liaison with the planning authority and local resident liaison.

  • Assistance with Eastbourne sea front bid for Govt finance - partial planning and design brief
  • Design of pub extensions at Golden Galleon Exceat Bridge - new brewery, bedrooms and bar areas, disabled facilities.
  • Birling Gap Community Association - rock revetment to protect the settlement from sea erosion - appeal and public inquiry.
  • Design of new house in South Downs AONB, Exceat Bridge , Cuckmere Valley - successful application and appeal against conditions and public inquiry.
  • Woking - Green Belt fringe application 4 acre site for 2 large houses - site and policy assessment, planning and design brief. Development Plan review representations.
  • Design and application to restore and rebuild oast house and residential change of use in High Weald AONB –appeal and public inquiry.
  • Thayer Street London, W1 - resolve planning difficulties for client with Westminster re residential conversion and rebuild over shops within buildings of architectural and historic merit..
  • Negotiations for site owner for Orange Network pole in ANOB and near SSSI/Nature Reserve.
  • Design and permission achieved for extension of Grade II* listed building – project supervision and implementation.
  • Opposition on behalf of local community against Environment Agency (a major Govt quango) project to remove sea defences at Cuckmere Haven in South Downs AONB
  • Various schemes to extend pubs, hotels, small breweries and private houses.
  • Site searches and planning negotiation for local house builder
  • Design and early stage negotiations for Care Village in East Sussex .
  • Conversion of an industrial unit to Fitness Studio.
  • Extension of 1930s ‘Colt' bungalow to form new oast houses.
  • Many property extensions and conversions to flats for householders and developers.
